Background & History

Zachary Weitz is an attorney at Frost Law’s Los Angeles office, focusing complex tax issues. His practice areas also include estate administration, estates and trusts, estates and trusts litigation, international tax, tax controversy, tax law, and wealth management and asset protection. Estate Planning & Trusts Zachary represents trustees, professional fiduciaries, and beneficiaries in high-stakes disputes related to estates and trusts. His strategic use of alternative dispute resolution methods often leads to cost-effective and amicable outcomes. For example, he recently resolved a multi-million-dollar estate dispute through mediation, saving his clients significant legal fees and preserving family relationships. Tax Controversy & Compliance In handling tax controversy matters, Zachary has navigated disputes with the Internal Revenue Service, California Franchise Tax Board, California Employment Development Department, and Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office. His approach has saved clients millions in potential taxes, penalties, and interest. His greatest victory was an over $1,000,000 refund obtained from the IRS that was in dispute for almost a decade. International Tax Zachary provides expert guidance on international tax compliance, assisting U.S. citizens with offshore assets and non-resident U.S. persons in managing complex U.S. tax laws, including IRS Streamline Filing Compliance Procedures. Professional & Community Involvement Beyond his legal practice, Zachary is committed to community involvement and professional development. He actively participates in several professional organizations and contributes to discussions on emerging tax and estate planning issues.

Zachary earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where he served as President of the Jewish Law Student Association. Following the passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, he was a part of team that edited the book Federal Income Tax (Examples & Explanations). In 2020, he graduated from Loyola Law School with an LL.M. in Taxation with distinction , focusing on international taxation. Zachary holds dual bachelor’s degrees, magna cum laude, in African History and American Politics from the University of California, San Diego. He is admitted to practice law in California and federal Tax Court.
